Der „Generation Europe Mixed Reality Exchange 2020“ bot eine hybride Form der internationalen Jugendbegegnung. In ihren Ländern und online vernetzt beschäftigten sich 30 Jugendliche aus Larissa, Florenz und Köln mit den Themenfeldern „Nähe und Distanz“, „Kommunikation und Isolation“ sowie „physische und virtuelle Begegnung“. Daraus entwickelten sie in transnationalen Gruppen eine gemeinsame digitale Erzählung, die unter https://stories.rrcgn.de/generation-europe-2020 entdeckt werden kann.

Seit 2018 arbeiteten die Einrichtungen ROOTS & ROUTES Cologne e. V. (DE), Centro di Creazione e Cultura (IT) und SMouTh – Synergy of Music Theatre (GR) zum Thema „Arts and Social Responsibility“ zusammen. Nach Begegnungen in Florenz (2018) und Larissa (2019) musste die für 2020 in Heek und Köln geplante Veranstaltung pandemiebedingt in ein hybrides Format umgewandelt werden.

Die Teilnehmenden setzten sich mithilfe künstlerischer Ausdrucksformen mit aktuellen politischen und gesellschaftlichen Themen auseinander und zeigten ihre Sicht auf die Lage. Zum Abschluss wurde ihre digitale Erzählung öffentlich präsentiert. In Köln wurde das Projekt mit einer COVID-19-konformen Ausstellung im Bürgerzentrum Alte Feuerwache vorgestellt.

It was an unprecedented experience for all of us and it went much better than something so new could go. Sometimes distance became an occasion for a different way of thinking, expression, creativity; but there were also times when it became an obstacle to cooperation. A sad part was that I didn’t have the chance to get to know all of the participants well. The program was very well organized, but I didn’t feel the energy of the others like at ‘normal’ times ... until the presentation!

A lot of people are still behind when it’s about digital evolution. We need to accept and respect it as part of our everyday life, with keeping our distance but not being afraid of it. It would have been a lot easier if more participants were able to work digitally (at least communication wise). Still, thanks to everyone who participated and to everyone who made that great experience happen!
